Local startups OneMorePallet, CrowdHall and Socstock, as well as the Brandery consumer marketing accelerator, joined 70 other new companies from around the nation at a first-ever entrepreneurship expo today at the Republican National Convention in Tampa.
The goal of the Huffington Post-sponsored event and a similar one next week at the Democratic convention in Charlotte, is to connect these young companies with politicians and policy-makers, business leaders, media, and fellow entrepreneurs. The afternoon began with a lunch to kick off the Huff Post’s new Opportunity: What is Working jobs site. A panel of speakers included Ohio Governor John Kasich, heads of LinkedIn, Startup America and the Rockefeller Foundation, and Arianna Huffington of the online news site. Job growth has been a major focus in the first two days of convention. Specifically, top Republican leaders have focused their talks on the jobs that are created by new and growing startup companies. CrowdHall and Socstock are members of the Brandery’s current class of startups. CrowdHall is an online platform for public personalities to engage with their constituents or fans. It allows users to ask questions of a politician, celebrity or sports star and to vote on others’ questions, and promotes the most asked and voted questions to the top.
Socstock empowers small businesses to raise money from their customers or fans in return for future goods or services.
OneMorePallet is part of the UpTech business informatics accelerator in Northern Kentucky, and has created a technology that matches tractors and trucks with excess space with businesses who want to fill the space with shipments.
